Social Status continues to honor former professional basketball player and American Athletic Conference Men’s Memphis Tigers head coach Penny Hardaway with the release of yet another collaborative shoe. Today, let’s explore with Authentic Shoes about this very special version of sneakers.

Following the release of the Air Max Penny 1, Social Status and Nike are taking us back to 1996 with an updated Air Penny 2 in several colors that pay homage to North Carolina – after all, James Whitner opened the first Social Status store in Charlotte.

This shoe is reminiscent of the good old days with tones and shades informed by Social Status’ successful use of beige and neutral tones in the past. Two colors will be released. The first version will come in a lighter cream, University Blue, white color with 3M trim, while the other shoe will get a bolder makeover with black, white, University Blue as well as 3M trim.

Both pairs will have a co-branded logo on the side, multiple shoelace color options and will come with a metal Air Penny 2 tag. Finally, these sneakers will come packaged in a box featuring an image of one of Nike’s most evil mascots – the sly puppet Lil Penny, voiced by Chris Rock.

There’s no release date or pricing yet, but this is good news for Anfernee Hardaway fans.
